is recruiting for an Office Assistant 1 to join our team.

What you will be doing:
The Office Assistant 1 position directs incoming calls, greets customers, and performs a wide range of reception services such as, receiving and prioritizing inquiries, responding to routine requests for information, and/or assessing the nature of an advanced request and referring it to the appropriate higher-level staff. This position is also responsible for opening, processing, and distributing incoming and outgoing mail for the Division. In addition to these duties, the incumbent is responsible for the daily courier run using the Division provided vehicle to deliver and retrieve documents.

These programs promote economic development through direct state lending in industries and areas of the state that are not adequately serviced by the private sector, thus ensuring Alaska is open for business. You will occupy a pivotal role within the Customer Service team, ensuring that projects are coordinated between internal customers, accurate financial records are maintained, and that excellent customer service is provided to all customers in pursuit of the department’s mission.

The Division of Investments is located on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. The office features an open floor plan with splendid views of Gastineau Channel and the surrounding mountain ranges. Within the office itself, you'll be surrounded by friendly and helpful team members, who want you to succeed alongside the division.

To be successful in this position a candidate will need the following core competencies:

  • Stress Tolerance: Deals calmly and effectively with high stress situations (for example, tight deadlines, hostile individuals, emergency situations, dangerous situations); and
  • Customer Service: Interacts with recipients of services (internal or external customers) in a way that provides accurate, timely, and effective information and service in a courteous and professional manner.
SPECIAL NOTICE: Driving a division provided vehicle is an essential function of this position on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.;

OR

Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);

OR

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

Special Note:

ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Alaska Job Centers.

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.

Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.
